So now that things are settling in I thought I would share some of the happenings in the library.
In September we had all of the students come in for orientation and to check out a book. It is always fun to see all of the students again after the summer. We also got the Book Club up and running. There are two Book Clubs - one meets in the morning from 7:30 - 8:00 and the other meets from 3:15 - 3:45 after school. We meet on Tuesday every other week. It is open to all students and they can join at any time! Check out the Book Club website and our meeting calendar for upcoming dates.
October was Book Fair! Students had the opportunity to come and hear book talks and browse at the Book Fair. We also had a contest for the correct number of items in the very large container. The winner got the candy AND a free book from the book fair. Students were able to purchase books the next week and we had a very successful Book Fair. Thanks to all who came in and supported the library!
November is here and I am busy adding new books to the library collection that were purchased from the Book Fair. There are a lot of new titles that I know the students are excited to see added to the library. The books are checked out as fast as I can get them on display. I love it when students get excited about the books and reading!
The next project is to get our Maker Space open for the students. It has been a bit of a process and we are hoping to get it going very soon. My goal is to have it open by December. More information on Maker Space to come!!
It is hard to believe that it is half way through November already. The year is flying by! I wanted to take a few minutes to tell everyone how thankful I am to be in such an awesome school as Castle Rock. We have teachers who care about the students, an administrative staff that is supportive of our community, our students and staff, and students that are great to work with, and parents that are care. Put it all together and we have the best school in the city of Billings!
Welcome back to school and to Castle Rock Middle School. Library orientation will take place this week. 6th grade will come in Aug. 28th, 7th grade will be in Aug. 29th, and 8th grade comes in Aug. 30th. Everyone should have a library book to take with them to classes, just in case you finish your work early and need something to do! Remember, you can come visit the library in the morning, at lunch time, after school, and anytime during the day with a library pass. Please remember to return your books in 3 weeks - that is your responsibility.
Stay tuned for information about Book Club, Maker Space, and upcoming Lunch and Learns. We have lots of fun things going on in the library so stop by often to see what we have going on.
February is I Love to Read month and of course the library is all about reading!! We have books to satisfy every reader and encourage all students to visit the library often. I also want to highlight the eLibrary that School District #2 has. We have all levels of books available for students (and adults) to check out and read using your device. Download the app Overdrive to your phone, tablet or find it online and you are able to read where-ever and when-ever you like. You will need your library ID number so make sure and stop in and see Mrs. Hoyt to get that.
What a great way to get rid of some dreary winter blues - by having a bright new and refreshing website for the Castle Rock Library. This section of the website will include a blog to help keep parents and students up to date with things that are going on in the library. We will highlight new books, new activities, and hope that you come back often to see what else is happening at Castle Rock. Please explore the new website, find familiar tools, discover new places and new tools and let me know what you think.
WHAT IS MRS. HOYT READING?
